PARENT/WHĀNAU INFORMATION

CENTRE ROUTINES

LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

Children’s interests, strengths, skills and dispositions are formally documented on a daily basis as they occur naturally in the child’s play experiences, as are parent/whānau feedback and aspirations. This information is assessed each month and forms the planning for the programme plan which extends on the child’s current learning. This process also highlights the link of prior learning for that child and our programme supports them to make connections with new experiences and opportunities and apply previous learning to a new context. Assessing, planning and evaluating supports the teaching team to recognise children’s developmental milestones and plan for future development or increased support if necessary.
A profile book containing learning stories, observations, art work & photographs, will be compiled and reviewed monthly by your child’s profile teacher. We encourage family involvement through the Whanau Voice section under each learning story where you can share your child’s learning journey outside of the centre. Your child’s profile book can be found on our book shelf in the Book Corner. Our programme planning wall is just inside the doors of both our under 2’s and over 2’s rooms.
We also provide a Profile for your child online, (with secure password) through Educa (www.educa.co.nz) and this can be shared with family and friends all over the world.

MEALS

Our in house centre cook prepares nutritious meals for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and creates our menu’s to meet the nutritional requirements of the different age groups. Please view our Nutrition tab for further information. We offer milk with each morning and afternoon tea meals and water is readily available at all times. A copy of our menu is displayed at reception.

SLEEP/ REST TIMES

We provide opportunities for all age groups to sleep and have a rest throughout the day in a designated sleep area. Each child has their own individual bedding/linen which is laundered weekly.

For our younger children, we aim to offer these sleep times at similar times to your child’s home routine to allow a smoother transition. We offer a quiet rest time for our preschool age children or a sleep if requested by the family.

SETTLING IN

When you enrol your child at Island Bay Childcare, your family will be appointed a profile teacher and a key person to support you during your settling in period. We encourage you to share any information with your profile teacher so we can best support your child during this time.

We encourage parents to have a settling in week before their child begins so that they can familiarize themselves with our routines, activities, environment and staff. We encourage families/parents to stay for the first two settling in days ,and from the following days, to leave for a time to allow their child to become comfortable in their new environment on their own and begin exploring!

ENROLMENT PROCEDURE

You will find a application form under “Enrolment Enquiries” on this website. Please fill out the form and we will get in touch with you, either via email or phone to confirm we have received your request.
We encourage you to visit with your child to help introduce and settle your child into the Centre. During this time you can discuss your child’s needs, learn about our early childhood programme based on Te Whariki, our policies and an opportunity to meet with our teachers.
