2-3½ YEARS- Whare Kiwi

Children in our Whare Kiwi are cared for by our three fabulous Kaiako, including Room Leader Nicole, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to every day teaching and learning.

BENEFITS OF ISLAND BAY CHILDCARE

AGE APPROPRIATE DESIGNED CLASSROOM

Resources and equipment specifically made and purchased to enable our 2-3.5 year old children to succeed! A large open plan classroom with lots of natural light and decorated with children’s art work and photos.

NURTURING APPROACH

We support children through care routines, particularly toilet learning as this regularly happens with this age group. Teachers follow through when children show an interest in using the toilet and work collaboratively with families to support children on this exciting journey of development.

ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENCE

children are encouraged and taught how to look after their own belongings, serve themselves at the kai table and recognize their bodies needs such as toileting and sleeping.

ABOUT 2-3½ YEARS

SUPPORT
THE CARE ROUTINES OF OUR GROWING TODDLERS

Our Kiwi Whare is designed to support the care routines of our growing toddlers and stimulate their learning through a range of indoor and our activities. The doors to our playground are opened at 8am every day and doesn’t close until everyone goes home!

INCREASED
INDEPENDENCE

The teaching team recognise that through the ages of 2-4 years, children are learning to communicate and desire increased independence. They create a programme that enhances these skills and dispositions through a semi structured play based routine.

TRANSITION

When children reach 3.5 years of age, teachers consult with families to prepare them and the children to transition to our 3.5-5 year old Pukeko Classroom. Our current families receive priority for spaces in the Pukeko Classroom.

ISLAND BAY CHILDCARE WHARE PROGRAM

An example of the daily routine includes circle time in the morning when all the children have arrived, where everyone is acknowledged through a welcome song. The children discuss what they would like to do that day and the nga Kaiako plans the day based on these interests plus some fun additions from the monthly programme too.
